Click photo to enlarge

Lordsburg High School will hold its annual Jessie Darnell 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament on May 26-27. The event will be held inside Maverick Gymnasium.

All proceeds are given to graduating athletes and to date the family has been able to raise more than $9,000 to honor Darnell s life and memory of giving back to the community.

Darnell was a student-athlete at Lordsburg High School when his life tragically came to an end in 2007. He was All-District and All-State in football. He reached legendary status early on as a Maverick when his 54-yard field goal put Lordsburg up for good in the state playoffs in 2006.
More than 150 games were played last year at this event. Teams are expected to come from Silver City, Deming, Las Cruces, Arizona and Texas. There are four age groups and guaranteed games are offered both days.

The tournament is limited to 70 teams, which was raised by 20 teams from last year. For more information, contact Jaime Diaz or D.J. Saucedo at (575) 519-0474.
