Basketball league, tournament coming to COM – Daily News

Published January 11, 2012

TEXAS CITY — The NBA is back in action, and college basketball matchups are more exciting than ever.

Next month, basketball fever will come to College of the Mainland with the inaugural 18-and-older adult basketball league and a 45-and-older 3-on-3 basketball tournament, which are both open to the public.

COM’s Run and Gun Adult Basketball League will begin Feb. 13 at the COM gym. Game days, times and duration will be based on the number of teams in the league.

“We want to provide a place for everybody to come and compete,” said Michael Richardson, COM’s coordinator for membership and community recreation. “It’s a nice, healthy, competitive league for everybody.”

Registration, which begins Jan. 23, is $375 for teams and $55 for individuals. Those without a team will be placed with other players to form a team.

The 3-on-3 tournament runs 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Feb. 4.

Registration, which includes the team roster, runs through Feb. 1, and the cost is $150 per team. Teams may have three or four players on the roster.

For information on the league or the tournament, contact Richardson, 409-933-8190 or mrichardson6(at)com.edu.
