Meeting on Ballardvale Fire Station tomorrow

ANDOVER — The School Committee and selectmen will host a joint forum on the Ballardvale Fire Station replacement proposal tomorrow in the World War I Memorial Auditorium at Doherty Middle School at 7 p.m.

The Ballardvale Fire Station Building Committee has recommended to build the proposed station on the South Elementary School’s baseball field. The plan would require a vote from the School Committee.

The meeting will be recorded and televised at a later date.

Legislators speak on health care reform

ANDOVER — The Northeast Independent Living Program, Inc. will host is 27th Annual Legislative Forum March 23 from 9 a.m. to noon at Massachusetts School of Law, 500 Federal St. The theme is “Health Care Reform: What Does it Mean to You?”

Among those invited are: Congresswoman Niki Tsongas; state senators Steven Baddour, Barry Finegold, Bruce Tarr, and Fred Berry; state representatives James Lyons, Paul Adams, Linda Dean Campbell, Marcos Devers, Colleen Garry, David Torrisi, Harriet Stanley, Marc Lombardo, Sheila Harrington, James Aciero, James Miceli, Michael Costello, David Nangle, Kevin Murphy, Brian Dempsey, and Tom Golden; Mayor William Lantigua and other local city officials.

Apply for Penney Richards scholarship

NORTH READING — Applications are now being accepted for the Penney Richards Memorial Scholarships.

The memorial fund was established by David and Penny Richards in memory of their daughter, Penney. She was killed in a motorcycle crash Nov.19, 2009 at age 25. At the time of her death she was a medical assistant at Massachusetts General Hospital’s North Shore Cancer Center in Danvers and preparing to enter a radiation/oncology program to further her education.

“We’re looking for people like our daughter, who was passionate about her career and helping people.” Mrs. Richards said. “We seek people currently employed in the medical field and continuing their education to develop greater knowledge and skill sets to treat the range of patient needs in the health care arena.”

Applications will be reviewed by a committee that includes business and health care industry professionals. The final determination of awards will be the decision of Mr. and Mrs. Richards, in conjunction with input from the application review committee.

Deadline for applications is April 13. Successful applicants will be notified of their award by June 15.

ATKINSON — Republican gubernatorial candidate Ovide Lamontagne will speak Tuesday at the Atkinson Republicans meeting at 6:30 p.m. at Kimball Library.

WINDHAM — The Woman’s Club will host the annual candidates’ night Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Town Hall.

Residents can question candidates who are running in the March town election.

The moderator is Nancy Tullo.

Hampstead to honor winter athletes

HAMPSTEAD — The Hampstead Hawks Middle School Athletic Club is hosting the Winter Sports Awards Banquet Tuesday for all athletes and their families.

The show starts at 6:30 p.m. in the middle school gym. Slideshow presentation begins at 6:15 p.m.

All athletes are asked to bring individually wrapped snacks.

School vacation week activities at Boys Girls Club

HAVERHILL — The Boys Girls Club of Greater Haverhill is offering a variety of activities during school vacation week next week.

Cost for the week is $25 for members and $60 for non-members. It includes lunch and snack each day. Sports activities include a 3-on-3 basketball tournament, home run derby, free throw and 3-point contest, 2-ball/jump rope competition, a spelling bee and computer whiz trivia, bumper pool and air hockey tournaments, as well as jewelry making and paper mache.
